Read More	******************************** Published June 10, 2010 - Chanute, KS Jay Edward Parr, 82, Green Bay, Wisconsin, died Saturday, May 29, 2010 in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Jay was born in Mene Grande, Venezuela on Oct. 5, 1927, the son of Everett and May (Blume) Parr. He grew up in South America before coming to Chanute as a young man, with his stepmother Eva Irene Parr. He spent a short time in Chanute prior to entering the Navy. He was a career Navy man before retiring in 1974 as a Quartermaster Senior Chief, submarine qualified. He served on various submarines during his career, including the nuclear sub USS Tullibee and the USS Robert E. Lee, one of the "boomers" — the type that carried ballistic missiles. Jay joined the USS Robert E. Lee Association in 1991, and the U.S. Submarine Veterans, Inc., Wisconsin Base in 1995. He was also a member of the USSVI Holland Club, a special designation for those members who qualified in submarines more than 50 years ago. He was an avid boater. He was united in marriage to Joan Hagerty. She preceded him in death. He is survived by a son, John Parr, and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother Eva I. Parr; and his wife. Graveside service will be Monday, June 14, 2010 at the Elmwood Cemetery, Chanute, Kansas. Penwell-Gabel Gibson Chapel is in charge of arrangements. ****************************
