Death came as a welcome, messenger to sever the earthly ties. Mr. Douma was born July 5, 1859, at Tzummarum, Friesland, Netherlands, and came at the age of 20 to this country. He first lived for some time at Orange City, but soon went to Alton, Iowa, where he was united in marriage, 33 years ago, to Miss Ida Baren, who, as his widow with 9 children and 7 grandchildren. From Alton where the family resided 8 years, they went to Davis South Dakota and stayed there but one year. After leaving South Dakota they came to Hull Iowa and have lived here now for about 24 years. Mr. Douma was a member of the First Reformed Church from which he was buried Tuesday March 11th, 1924, his pastor Rev. J. H. Kregel, assisted by Rev. Chas. Stoppels of the American Reformed Olutrcli, officiating. Interment wan at Hope Cemetery. The relatives, mourn his departure, though not as those who have no hope, for in his life Mr. Douma manifested in word and deed, that there would be no condemnation for him, because he believed in Christ who was his Savior through divine grace. The surviving children are: John Douma of Hull, Iowa; Jake Douma of Sioux Falls, S.D.; Mrs. Hattie De Jong, of Carmel, Iowa; Mrs. Rosena Brunsting; Neal Douma; Gossen Douma; Sarah Douma; Trace Douma; Oscar Douma, of Hull, Iowa. Four infant children preceeded Mr. Douma in death. He is also survived by two brothers; Mr. Jake Douma, of Alton, Iowa; and Mr. Oscar Douma of ?????? and one sister, Mrs. H. Costhumes, of Sanborn, Iowa. Mr. Douma was ever a loving and faithful husband andfather, and the Index man whishes to add his sincere sympathy to the griefstriken wife and children.
