Clayburg, pastor of the Methodist Church in charge, and the Rev. Frank Moore, pastor of the Grant Methodist Church, assisting. Interment was made in the Villisca Cemetery. Mrs. Gourley died at 11 p.m. Thursday of last week at the home of her son Center on south Third Avenue, her death resulting from old age complications coupled with a stroke of paralysis which she suffered Friday, March 13. The body was taken to the Wolfe Funeral Parlors where it was prepared for interment and then returned Friday evening to the son’s home to await the last rites. Pall bearers at the funeral were Harold Winter, Lee Means, Harry Borrusch, Judd Means, Waldo Penton, and Fredrick Fisher. Mrs. Albert Davie sang with Mrs. J. L. Wheeler accompanying on the organ. Jennie Sprague, daughter of John W. Spragur and Marinda Johnson, was born June 15, 1865 in Rainsborough, Highland County, Ohio, one of a family of fourteen children of whom nine survive. Those living are Mrs. Ida Spragur, John William and Jerry Spragur, Villisca, Charles Spragur, Shenandoah, Mrs. T. K. Armstrong and Fred Spragur, Mound City, Missouri, and Mrs. Gertrude Miller, Chula Vista, California. With her parents, Mrs. Gourley came to Villisca on March 9, 1870 on the first passenger train to make the run from Burlington to Pacific Junction. She had been a resident of Villisca the 66 years since that time, with the single exception of six months spent in Norfolk, Nebraska. On February 4, 1884, she was married to Robert H. Gourley and to them were born seven children, three of whom died in infancy. The living are Max and Center Gourley, Villisca; Mrs. Daphen Preston, Creston; and Mrs. Bernice Hayes, Prescott. She leaves also eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He husband preceded her in death January 31, 1928. Relatives here from a distance to attend the last rites Sunday were Mrs. T. K. Armstrong and Fred Spragur, Mound City, Missouri; Chas. Spragur, Shenandoah; Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Hall, Red Oak; Mrs. Zola Spragur, Omaha; Mr. and Mrs. George Preston and son Robert, Creston; and Mr. and Mrs. Howard Hayes and family, Prescott. Villisca Review, Friday, March 27, 1936, page 1 & 4 Jennie Spargur was born June 15, 1865 in Rainsborough, Highland, Ohio to John W Spargur and Merenda Johnson, and was married to Robert Gourley in Villisca, February 4, 1884. To this union seven children were born, three of whom died in infancy. Those living are Mrs. Roy Hall of Corning, Senter L. Gourley of Villisca, Max E. Gourley of Cumberland, Iowa, and Mrs. Howard Hayes, of Mount Etna. She died March 19, 1936 in Montgomery County, Iowa and is buried in the Villisca Cemetery.
