Jens Peter Nielsen was born June 4, 1913, near Rolfe, Iowa. He was the son of Niels Christian and Mary Dorothy (Christiansen) Nielsen. Nielsen - age 97, of Pocahontas, passed away Tuesday, October 12, 2010, at the Rolfe Care Center in Rolfe, Iowa. Jens Peter Nielsen was born June 4, 1913, near Rolfe, Iowa. He was the son of Niels Christian and Mary Dorothy (Christiansen) Nielsen. He was confirmed in the Nain Lutheran Church in Rolfe (now St. Paul's). He graduated from the D.M.T. High School in 1930. On December 1, 1934, J.P. married Mildred Marie Christensen at Fort Dodge. They farmed in the Havelock, Graettinger, Rolfe and Gilmore City areas. In 1959, they moved to Laurens and were partners in a feed store. J.P. always enjoyed fixing motors and worked for Struthers Imp. in Rolfe and also fixing lawn mowers. In 1972, they moved to Pocahontas and started Nielsen Sales and Service located at the south end of main street before moving the business to the "tepee" on the east end of Pocahontas near the Indian Statue until retirement. Mildred passed away in 2002. J.P. loved tending his garden on his acreage near Plover and in Pocahontas, and giving away most all of the produce. His grandchildren were his pride and joy. He loved all the visits with them and their hugs and kisses. Survivors include his son, Gary (Sandra) Nielsen of Pocahontas; daughters, Gloria (Bob) Beekman of Pocahontas; Judy (Marvin) Taylor of Pocahontas and Carolyn Nielsen of Humboldt; eleven grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; ten great-great-grandchildren; sister, Mabel "Bea" Ives of Rolfe and many nieces & nephews. J.P. was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mildred; brothers, Anton, Clifford and August; sisters, Marie Miller, Ila Mae Hubbell and Mildred Johnson; grandson, David Nielsen and a great-grandchild, Micah Foster.
