They were the parents of George, Wendeline, Herman, Katherine, Johanna, John, Gaberdine. Mrs. Herman Hesslingh, of this city, died Thursday, March 13, at her home in the first ward, after a brief illness following a stroke of paralysis. The deceased was born in Oestfriesland, Germany, March 4 1844. Her parents came to this country while she was yet a child and most of her early life was passed at Freeport, Illinois, where she was married in 1870 to Herman Hesslingh. They came to Grant township in this county at quite an early day and by thrift and industry accumulated a large property and built themselves a fine home. They moved to Carroll in 1902 and Mr. Hesslingh died in this city about three years ago. Seven children were born to them, three sons and four daughters. One daughter died several years ago. The surviving children are George Hesslingh, of Manning, John and Herman, of Grant township, Mrs. J.D. Noble, Mrs. Otto Conrad, and Miss Addie, who lives at home. A sister, Mrs. W.L. Becker, of this city, is her only other surviving relative. The deceased was a member of the Church of God and was highly esteemed by all who knew her. In Grant township, where they made their home for more than thirty years the family was held in highest regard and will long be held in memory by the friends and neighbors of pioneer days. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at the residence, conducted by Rev. Mr. Elliott, a former pastor. From out of town there were present Mrs Henry Johnson, accompanied by two sons and a daughter from Ackley; Mr. and Mrs. Hoogestraat, of Lonex, South Dakota, the latter being a niece of the deceased; two of the Kruse brothers, from Little Rock, Iowa; Mrs. G. Von Glan and daughter, of Wheatland township. Interment was made in the city cemetery.
