She volunteered at Woodlawn School and at St John's Rummage House and always helped out at the Fiesta. She also volunteered at the Topeka Lulac Senior Center. She was a member of the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. She married Silverio Garcia, Sr. on July 17, 1953 in Lawrence. He preceded her in death February 28, 1992. She was also preceded in death by her son Silverio Garcia, Jr. Survivors include Alicia Toledo (Alex) Topeka, Laura Chavez (Joe) Lawrence, Phil Garcia, Topeka; four grandchildren; one great grandson; one great granddaughter; four sisters; and five brothers. The family will greet friends from 6 – 7 p.m. with a Rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 19th at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. The family suggests memorials in her name to St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church for the benefit of the Rummage House and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
