Coming to America from Sweden 75 years ago, Mrs. Mainquist, then Johanna Clara Christina Palmquist, moved from Andover Illinois, where she lived one year, to this county in 1869. That was the year that the Rev. B. M. Halland inspected a part of Montgomery and Page Counties and accepted the Burlington's offer for the great Swedish settlement. A year later Stanton was platted and incorporated. Born in Smoland, Sweden, on March 21, 1857, Mrs. Mainquist was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Johannes Magnus (Anna Lisa Swanson) Palmquist. She was married March 12, 1875, at Stanton to Samuel August Mainquist, who died 25 years ago. (Originally met on the boat emigrating from Sweden. Married by Rev. Halland.) Survivors are seven daughters, Mrs. Helen Hogberg, Mrs. Anna Fransen, Mrs. Harriette Anderson, and Mrs. Niema Anderson of Stanton, Mrs. Edna Hultman and Mrs. Amelia Peterson of Red Oak, and Mrs. Florence Botil of Omaha; one son, Adolph Mainquist of Villisca; a brother, Claus Palmquist of Red Oak, 28 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Two children, Rosie and Eva, preceded her in death. Five grandsons are now serving in the armed forces of the United States. Mrs. Mainquist was a charter member of the Stanton Mission Church, but she had transferred her membership to the Red Oak Church. Services Tuesday The Rev. Arnold Tamte will be in charge of services in Red Oak, while Irene and Elinore Noren will be vocalist. At Stanton, Rev. Otto Nelson will give the message, with music by Rev. Mr. Tamte and Mrs. Will Bergstrom, as vocalist and Mrs. Clifford Palmquist as accompanist. Pall bearers will be six grandsons, Carl, Marvin, and Curtis Hultman, Myron Mainquist, Paul and Gordon Hogberg.
