The sad news came to Dayton of the passing, last Sunday morning, of a former resident here, Mrs. Frank Carlson, who has been living for some time in the Immanuel Home for the Aged in Omaha, Nebraska. She and her husband lived for years on a farm southwest of Dayton and after retiring, lived for years in a beautiful home in the west part of town. Mr. Carlson died in 1930. Services were held in the Robert Carlson farm home here at 1:30 o'clock yesterday (Wednesday) and at 2:00 o'clock in the Lutheran Church of Dayton. Reverend R. E. Carlson, pastor, was in charge and Swansons handled the arrangements. Mrs. Carlson was born in Harcourt, Iowa, and died at the age of 79 years, 8 months and 28 days. She leaves her six children, three daughters, Edith, Lillian and Rosalie, and three sons, Robert, Roger and Herbert. Burial was made in the Dayton cemetery. Dayton Review April 28, 1949 OBITUARY Mrs. Hannah Carlson July 19, 1869 - April 17, 1949 Mrs. Hannah Carlson was born near what is now Lanyon, Iowa, on July 19, 1869. Her mother died in her infancy, so the little child was lovingly card for by Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Strand, and on their home southwest of Dayton Mrs. Carlson was reared. She was baptized and confirmed by Pastor C. A. Hemborg at Emanuel Lutheran Church, Dayton. This church remained her spiritual home all of her life. On April 16, 1890, she was married to Mr. Frank O. Carlson at the A. P. Strand home. To this union were born seven children, six of whom survive their mother. The Carlsons lived on farms in the Gowrie and Harcourt areas the first years of their married life. In 1901 they moved to a farm 6 miles southwest of Dayton. This farm is still in the family and is the present home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Carlson. In 1917 Mr. Carlson retired from farming and moved to Dayton. Here in 1930 he passed away. After her husband's death, Mrs. Carlson's sight began to fail, and she was unable to be alone. Her daughter, Edith, cared for her many years, both in Dayton and in Minneapolis, Minn. In the fall of 1947 she went to the home for the aged at Immanuel Deaconess Institute, Omaha, Nebr. Here she made her home and her she passed away on Easter Sunday, April 17, 1949, at the age of 79 years, 8 months and 28 days. She has been in poor health for some years, but her passing was nevertheless unexpected. Mrs. Carlson is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Edith Hogberg of Minneapolis, Mrs. Lillian Johnson of Minneapolis, Mrs. Rosalie Kinney of Waterloo; and three sons, Roger of Sioux City, Herbert of Omaha, and Robert of Dayton. A sister, Mrs. Augusta Carlson of Couer d'Aalene, Idaho; five grandchildren; a niece, Mrs. Lanning Tidrick of Des Moines; and many other relatives and friends also survive. She is preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Frank O. Carlson, and one daughter, Mabel, who passed away in 1911 at the age of 19. Mrs. Carlson loved her church and the Christ which it proclaims. Her oft expressed wish was that she might soon be permitted to "go home." God granted this wish in the early dawn of Easter Day. I know that Easter will henceforth have even greater significance and meaning to her loved ones, as they recall that Easter 1949 was "Homecoming Day" for Mother. Mrs. Carlson was lovingly and solicitously cared for by all of her children. I am prompted, however, to mention Edith, who for many years made a home for her mother and Herbert, who, making his home in Omaha, ministered most unto her during the last years and months of her life. Mrs. Carlson's children have mentioned to me that she knew and loved so many of our Christian hymns. Those used at our service today were all favorites of hers. By God's grace, and through the grace of our crucified and risen Saviour, this dear mother, no longer to raise her voice in the songs of the Church Militant, may now join the song of the Redeemed with the Church Triumphant, singing Redemption's song about the Throne of God. Services were held Wednesday, April 20 at the Robert Carlson home. Rev. R. E. Carlson and Pastor George Bernard of Trinity Church, Omaha, Nebr., were in charge. Mrs. H. F. Johnson sang "Safe in the Arms of Jesus" and Rev. and Mrs. R. E. Carlson sang a duet. Fred Strandberg accompanied. Pallbearers were Elmer and Bert Skoglund, Obed and Martin Burkgren, Clyde Magnuson and Ralph Strand.
