Read More	Dayton Review January 21, 1960 OBITUARY ROGER MARTIN CARLSON Roger Martin Carlson, the son of Frank O. and Hannah Carlson was born on a farm near Gowrie, Iowa, on January 18, 1893. He was baptized as an infant at Zion Lutheran Church, Gowrie, and at the age of 8 he moved with his family to a farm southwest of Dayton. The family affiliated with Emanuel Lutheran Church, Dayton, and on May 12, 1907, Roger was confirmed by Pastor N. E. Kron. He attended the grade school in this community and upon graduation enrolled at Augustana Academy, Rock Island, Ill. Upon graduation he enrolled at Augustana College, and was in his second year at college when he answered the call of his country and enlisted in the army. This was during World War I, and he saw service in Europe with the 123rd Field Artillery. Following the conclusion of the war he was mustered out and went to Sioux City, Iowa to make his home. He found employment with the Warren Electric Co. He later became a member of the firm, rising to the position of vice president. He traveled much in the interest of the firm which had branch offices in a number of cities. In 1947 Mr. Carlson retired from active service with the firm, and devoted full time to his farming and ranching interests in South Dakota. Soon after moving to Sioux City Mr. Carlson affiliated with the Augustana Lutheran Church of that city, and remained a faithful member through the years. He served for a number of years as a member of the Board of Directors of the Iowa Lutheran Home for the Aged at Madrid. For the past two years Mr. Carlson has resided at Omaha. He traveled much and visited often in Dayton where he was a frequent worshipper at our Emanuel Lutheran Church. Mr. Carlson enjoyed robust health throughout the years. About three years ago, however, there appeared signs of failing health. These became more evident the past six months and were a matter of much concern for his loved ones. He made plans to build a home in Dayton and live here in quiet retirement. This, however, was not to be, as last Friday, Jan. 8, 1960, he suffered a stroke about noon while in his hotel room in Omaha. He was taken to the hospital where he passed away at 6:30 p.m. that day, at the age of 66 years, 11 months and 20 days. He is survived by two brothers: Herbert G. Carlson, of Omaha, Neb., Robert E. Carlson, of Dayton; three sisters: Mrs. Edith Hogberg, of Minneapolis, Minn., Mrs. Rosalie Kinney, of Waterloo, Iowa, and Lillian, Mrs. Herbert Johnson, of Wyzata, Minn.; 2 nephews, 3 nieces, and many other relatives and a host of friends.
