Read More	Memorial from funeral folder: Memorial Tribute John Anthony "Boots" Walker was born in Baker Township near Melvin, Iowa on February 11, 1922. He was raised by his mother, Charlena (Lena) (Van Dyke) and his step-father, John Schiphoff in northwest Iowa and southwest Minnesota. He attended rural school near Melvin, Iowa. John was united in marriage to Arlene Mae Stratman on July 30, 1957 at the First Baptist Church in George. John's early work included working on the family farm and driving truck for Graves Construction. He started his own portable grain milling business in the 1950's and designed and built much of the machinery he used to grind livestock feed for area farmers. He also owned and operated the Plessis Elevator between Melvin and Hartley for five years. He then worked at Eaton Corporation in Spencer where he came up with ideas for several innovations for which he was honored because of their time and money saving design. John had a reputation of being punctual and efficient, hard-working and one who thought about others more than himself. At least on one occasion while working at Eaton he did not take his own security seriously enough and kept working at his machine during a bomb threat that emptied the entire plant. He retired in May of 1989 and continued to tinker with various machine ideas and took care of lawns for several retired people. He enjoyed and took great pride in his gardens. Spending time with his children and grandchildren was one of John's greatest joys. He attended First Reformed Church in Melvin. John died Monday, February 20, 2006 at the Primghar Care Center at the age of eight-four years and nine days. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Isabell Swalve, LeRoy Walker, Margaret Rode, Albert Schiphoff, Clarence Schiphoff, Peter Schiphoff, and Johnny Schiphoff.
