Description	:	John was the son of Joseph and Barbara Schmitt. He did not marry. June 11, 1925 - Carroll Times - John Schmitt, pioneer resident of Carroll county, passed away at the home of his sister, Mrs. J. Zurn, at 2 o'clock last Wednesday afternoon, after a short illness, his death being very sudden and due to liver and stomach trouble. June 11, 1925 - Carroll Times - John Schmitt, pioneer resident of Carroll county, passed away at the home of his sister, Mrs. J. Zurn, at 2 o'clock last Wednesday afternoon, after a short illness, his death being very sudden and due to liver and stomach trouble. Decedent was born in Karback, Bavaria, Germany, on June 6, 1858, and at the age of 13 years came to this country with his parents in the year 1871, the family settling in New York City, where they resided until May, 1873, when they came to Carroll county and settled on a farm in Roselle township, where the subject of this sketch with his two brothers, was engaged in the pursuit of farming until late years, since which time he had made his home with his sisters and his brothers. He leaves to mourn his loss two brothers and two sisters, viz: George Schmitt, living on a farm near Carroll; Joseph; Barbara (Mrs. William Wille); Kathrine (Mrs. John Zurn) living in Carroll. There are also surviving ten nephews and seven nieces. The deceased was a devout member of the S.S. Peter and Paul's church of this city, and the funeral services were held from that place last Saturday morning at 9 o'clock, where a multitude of friends and relatives gathered to pay their last tribute of respect to their departed friend. Six of his nephews tenderly bore his remains to their last resting place, these being John and Henry Zurn, Nick and William Wllle, and George and Ed Schmitt. Truly it can be said of Mr. Schmitt, a good man has gone to his reward. May his last long sleep be refreshing and his awakening triumphant.
