Description	:	March 20, 1944 - Carroll Times - Mrs. John Zurn, pioneer resident of Carroll county, passed away at her home, 108 South Adams Street at 5 o'clock Saturday afternoon. Death claimed her at the age of 88 years. Mrs, Zurn had been in failing health for the last five years, and had been in a wheel chair during all of that time. She had been bedfast the past week. Funeral services are to be at 9:30 Tuesday morning at SS Peter and Paul's Church, of which Mrs. Zurn was a member. The Rev. Father L. Schenkelberg will read the requiem... Burial will be in the family lot in the parish cemetery. The body is resting at the Gallagher Funeral Home until the time of the rites, and may be viewed there by friends. Mrs. Zurn was born Katherine Scmitt, Feb 2, 1856 in Germany. She was the daughter of Joseph and Barbara Schmitt. who brought their family to the US in 1871 and settled in Brooklyn, NY. Two years later they came to Carroll county to make their home of a farm south of Carroll. In 1875 she married John Zurn, the ceremony taking place at Holy Angels, Roselle. Mr and Mrs Zurn established their home on a farm three miles south of Carroll where they were living when Mr Zurn died in 1880. Mrs Zurn and her children then maede her home with her parents south of town until 1898 when they moved to town. During the ensuing years Mrs Zurn has always lived on the same block. She was the mother of three sons, all of whom survive. They are John and William at home, and Henry of Carroll. She also leaves one granddaughter. Mrs Zurn was the oldest and last of a family of five children. She had 3 brothers and one sister.
