Read More	UNMARKED GRAVE ---------------------------------- SUDDEN DEATH OF JOHN CHILEWSKI LAST WEEK Aged Resident of Sherman County for Past Forty Years. This community was greatly shocked and saddened last week to learn that the aged father of Mike Chilewski, living about 8 or 9 miles northwest of Loup City, had passed away on Wednesday evening about seven-thirty. The old gentleman had always been in the best of health, in fact he had never been ill, and on this day as on previous days was feeling fine. Shortly after eating supper Mr. Chilewski left the house and stepped out into the yard. His son, Mike became worried and alarmed at his non-appearance and went in search of him. He found his father lying on the ground. He and his sons carried the unconscious form into the house. A physician was called but found that life was extinct, no doubt due to heart failure. John Chilewski was born in Germany about ninety – five or six years ago. The certificate of birth is still in Germany and so the exact date is not known. Then he was about seventeen years of age, he was united in marriage to Annie Dornowski. This union was blessed with a large family of children, two sons are yet in Germany and several have preceded the father in death. Those living in the united States are Paul Chilewski of LaSalle,IL, Mike Chilewski of Loup City, Mrs. Mary Kowaleski Bandura of Elba and John Chilewski of Douglas, WY. Mrs. Eva Lorchick, a daughter, died several years ago, as also did Frank Chilewski of IL. When Mike Chilewski was about 13 or 14 years of age he came to America as work was very scare in the home-land and the wages very small. Two of his brothers came a year or two before that. After he had been here for four or five years he and his brothers sent back enough money to their parents to bring them and the rest of the family to America. The family settled about 100 miles west of Chicago and lived there several years. Finally one of the older sons moved out to Sherman county and a short time after persuaded his parents to come here too. This was about 40 years ago and the parents settled on a homestead near where Mike Chilewski’s farm is now. Thirteen years ago the wife of the deceased passed away to her reward and the husband made his home with Mike and his family except for occasional visits to Ashton and Loup City. He had always been a hard working man and up to the very last he was happy when the weather permitted him to be outdoors, splitting wood at the wood pile, even though it was not necessary to do so. He liked to be busy at odd little jobs about the farm. Gone from our midst is a good man and a good neighbor, one who shall be greatly missed from the family circle, but his memory will be cherished by those who knew him. The funeral services were held from the St. Jospehat’s church Saturday morning. Father Alexander conducting the services. Interment was made in St. Josephat’s Cemetery.
