(sic) Welsh, who passed away at Puenta (sic), California, last week; sad in that he died among strangers and his death came in so short a time that his people were unable to reach him before he died. The remains arrived in the city Tuesday morning and the funeral was held from the Church of the Sacred Heart at 9:00 o'clock, Rev. J.P. Barron officiating. Following the mass Father Barron preached an eloquent funeral sermon appropriate for the deceased and that of Patrick F. Collins, whose remains were brought into the church at that time. As many of the mourners were relatives of both deceased parties it was deemed advisable to have the one funeral cortege accompany the remains to the Catholic cemetery where interment took place. The deceased was thirty two years of age and was born in Harrison township. When a young man he learned the blacksmith trade and worked for some time in this city. He went west about two years ago and for a time was located at Burke, Idaho. About seven or eight years ago he went to California for the benefit of his health. The immediate cause of his death was typhoid pneumonia and he had been ill but a few days. To mourn his death are four brothers, Pierce of Missouri Valley; Michael of Burke, Idaho; David and Edward of Harrison township, and two sisters, Mary and Margaret, living at the old homestead in Harrison township. His aged mother passed away a few months ago. The Democrat extends to the bereaved family its sincere sympathy.
