Read More	"Father" ~~~~~~~~~~~~ 'The Madisonian,' Virginia City, MT 10 October 1947, page 1: Laurin, Oct. 8 -- John Daniel Bock, 85, pioneer resident of Montana and former Laurin postmaster, died of pneumonia at the Murray hospital in Butte at 4 a.m. Sunday after an illness of about a week. A native of Iowa, he came to the Ruby Valley with his parents in 1863, crossing the plains in a covered wagon. Mr. Bock engaged in freighting by team into Virginia City in the early days in partnership with the late Joseph I. Haines. He then operated a ranch on Ramshorn creek for many years, moving to Laurin where he served as postmaster for 15 years until his retirement about 10 years ago. During his residence on Ramshorn creek, Mr. Bock served as school trustee for many years. At the time of his death he was the senior member of Sheridan Lodge No. 20, A. F. and A. M., which he joined 63 years ago. Mr. Bock was married to Jennie Wilcox, a native of Alder Gulch who died April 4, 1930, and is survived by eight daughters and one son: Mrs. Oliver Morse and Mrs. Frank VanSlette of Laurin; Mrs. J. L. Willard, Dillon; Mrs. R. B. Moffett, Los Angeles; Mrs. Charlotte Murray, Butte; Mrs. J. C. Brown, Alder; Mrs. A. F. VanSlette, Bremerton, Wash.; Mrs. Bert Kelly, Butte, and Daniel A. Bock, Billings. A son, Joseph Bock died March 8, 1936. Also surviving are 23 grandchildren, and two brothers, Charles T. Bock of Sheridan and George Bock of Brigham City, Utah. Funeral services were conducted by Sheridan Lodge No. 20 in the Masonic hall at Sheridan at 2 p.m. Tuesday and burial with masonic committal rites was made in the family plot in Sheridan cemetery. ~~ John D. Bock, Jr. and Jennie Wilcox were married on May 23, 1891, at Dillon, Beaverhead County, Montana. The marriage record shows that he was aged 28, born at Council Bluffs, Iowa, the son of John D. Bock and Catherine Shoemaker. Montana Certificate of Death shows Daniel Bock died on October 5, 1947, at Butte, Silver Bow County, Montana: aged 85; born April 9, 1862 at Iowa City, Iowa; widowed, Jean Bock; farmer; father, John Daniel Bock; removal to Sheridan, Montana for burial.
