Description	:	John Dow Barker died at his home near Sciola on December 8, 1891, aged 88 years, 8 months, 5 days. John D. Barker was born in Cornville, Summerset County, Maine, April 3d, 1803, was married September 10th, 1832 to Rebecca W. Russell of Washington, Connecticut, who died March 13th, 1880. He joined the Congregational Church in 1831 and has been a faithful Christian ever since. He has been a member of the Masonic Order for 55 years. In 1844, he moved from Massachusetts to Jefferson County, Wisconsin, where he lived until 1872. He then came to Montgomery County, Iowa.... In 1844, he moved from Massachusetts to Jefferson County, Wisconsin, where he lived until 1872. He then came to Montgomery County, Iowa. He leaves two sons and six grandchildren and has buried two daughters and a son. Mr. Barker for several years resided in Villisca and was well known to many of our citizens. He was a true gentleman of the old school, honest, and straight-forward in his actions and outspoken in his convictions. His family has the heartfelt sympathy of a host of friends here and elsewhere. The funeral services will be conducted at his late home near Sciola and interment made in Villisca Cemetery, today. The Masonic lodge of this place will have charge of funeral and he will be buried with full honors of the order.
