Description	:	John Ervin Kolb and Artelia Lovis Stewart married on January 12, 1861 in Monroe County, Mississippi. As a wedding gift from his parents, the couple received a deed of land. Read More	John Ervin Kolb and Artelia Lovis Stewart married on January 12, 1861 in Monroe County, Mississippi. As a wedding gift from his parents, the couple received a deed of land. Over the years, he worked with many different kinds of wood in all types of home construction. He even figured out a way to build a cutting machine for making shingles. However, John Ervin also worked on commercial projects, such as the Georgia Pacific Railroad, where he helped build the new rail lines. He toiled long hours and was away from home for days and weeks at a time, as he labored for his family. But, he always tried to move his family along with him as much as possible when his work areas changed. John Ervin served four years during the Civil War with the Confederate Army. He mustered with the 24th, 41st, and 43rd Mississippi Infantry. Leaving Mississippi after the Civil War, John and his family first moved to Texas, then to Oklahoma, and then finally to Arkansas in 1878. The family hadn't been in Arkansas very long when Artelia passed away. After Artelia's death in 1879, John married Mary Louisa Leningham McWherter on December 8, 1881 in Johnson County, Arkansas. Again John Ervin headed his family east. The last of his children being born in Alabama. Louisa had a son, Tom McWherter, by a previous marriage. She and John Ervin then had four more children together. The children were: Era Lawrence Kolb, b. June 1, 1882 Gabriel Lee Kolb, b. June 2, 1888 Virgil Burt Kolb, b. October 22, 1890 Deana Virginia Kolb, b. May 10, 1891 The photo to the right is that of the Nimrod Community Church and old school building. The cemetery is on the left hand side of the photo. John Ervin's son, Wiley, taught school in this Nimrod Community building years ago.
