Description	:	Frank Schreckengast John Franklin Schreckengast, just "Frank" to all who knew him, was the youngest son of Joseph and Ellen Schreckengast. He was born in Keosauqua, Iowa, November 9, 1873, being 67 years and 8 months of age when he was called on July 9, 1941, ay 10:30 p.m. When a young lad of 10 years of age he united with the Methodist church in Keosauqua. Read More	Frank Schreckengast John Franklin Schreckengast, just "Frank" to all who knew him, was the youngest son of Joseph and Ellen Schreckengast. He was born in Keosauqua, Iowa, November 9, 1873, being 67 years and 8 months of age when he was called on July 9, 1941, ay 10:30 p.m. When a young lad of 10 years of age he united with the Methodist church in Keosauqua. He was also a member of the Woodman and Odd Fellow Lodges. Frank Schreckengast lived his entire life in and around Keosauqua. In the younger years he was associated with his father and brother, Charles in carpentry work during which time they built the present Methodist church. When the bell was hung in the belfry, Frank struck the first tone on it. On April 10, 1896 he was united in marriage with Clara Ellen Luke. To this union 3 sons were born: Ben of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Gona of Long Beach, California, and John Franklin, Jr., who passed away December 29, 1918. About 1900 he became City Engineer for the Town of Keosauqua operating the power sister for about 20 years. In 1924 he began work with the Iowa State Highway Commission in which service he remained until the time of his death. Mr. Schreckengast was a careful conscientious workman, a good citizen, a true friend and devoted husband and father. His chief interests centered about his home, his work and friends and to these he gave himself with utter abandonment. He is survived by his wife and two sons, Ben and Gona, and their wives, 3 granddaughter and 3 grandsons besides a number of nieces and nephews and other relative and a host of friends all of whom mourn his departure. Funeral services conducted by the Rev. C. H. Orf, were held from the Keosauqua Methodist church on Monday afternoon, July 14, 1941. Interment was in Purdom cemetery. Source: Van Buren Co.
