In 1876 he removed to Lyon township, Cloud Co., Kansas, where he has since made his home. In the year 1881 he was united in marriage to Miss Anna Dorothea Horn. Mr. Libben was always a frugal, industrious, hard- working man, honest and upright in all his dealings, and, until recently, strong and robust in body. His last illness was not long, nor marked with great suffering; yet a gradual wasting away was apparent almost from the first. He passed away Saturday evening Jan. 22, 1910, at 71 years of age. – F.R.H. (also, page 4) A Deplorable Case In the burial of John Libben was laid at rest the remains of a man who had lived in this section about thirty-six years, a man who had made a good record for thrift and honesty and had accumulated considerable property. The direct cause to which his death was attributable, was freezing. He lived alone on his farm southeast of Glasco. One day Henry Sheets went over to see him on business. There was no sign of life about the place. It was during the cold weather, and Mr. Sheets went in. He found Mr. Libben lying unconscious, the stove knocked over, and the room otherwise confused. Aid was summoned and it was found that Mr. Libben was frozen on the back, and his feet badly frozen, also. It is thought he had trouble with his heart and hastened to summon aid, but was unable to reach the phone, overturning the stove in his endeavors. He had plrobably lain for some hours before being found. Although having been separated from his wife by degree of court some months before, there came, we are told, a reconciliation, and his family was with and caring for him at the last.
