At 2 p.m. the services were conducted at Trinity Lutheran Church where a large number of friends and former neighbors had gathered to pay their respects to one whom they had known for many years. A quartet, Misses Frieda Menough and Irma Fiene and Messrs. Otto Braklow and Pearle Church sang: "Just As I Am, Without One Plea," and "One Sweetly Solemn Thought," with Miss Mildren Meyermann at the organ. The pastor based his remarks on Mark 14, 36: "Abba, my Father, all things are possible with Thee. Take away from me this cup, neverthless not what I will, but what thou wilt." The many and beautiful floral tributes were in charge of Mesdames Julius Erickson, Kenneth Valentine and Jule Kueck. Pallbearers were Albert Schroeder, Eric Lippert, Leo Weeks, Charles Groshong, Louis Lippert. Interment was made in the South Marion Cemetery, south of Stratford. John Henry Eckstein, the oldest child of John C. and Anna Eckstein, was born February 11, 1868, in the city of New York to which place his parents had emigrated from Germany some years before. The family moved to this city where the father found employment as an engineer with the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad, the deceased being seven years old at the time. He attended the schools of this city, after graduation finding employment on the farms of this vicinity and continuing to work for the greater part of his life. He was united in marriage to Mary Johnson of near Stratford, February 25, 1891, and for the next 30 years the family resided on it's own farm in Dodge Township. Residence was established in Boone, on March 1, 1921. Two children were born to this union, Christ Eckstein, a son living near Stratford, and Mrs. Walter Lippert, 327 South Tama St., his daughter. Three brothers, George, August and Christ, and a sister, Mrs. Emma Barret, reside in Boone and another brother, Henry, is a resident of Waterloo. His widow and four grandchildren also survive. The deceased boasted a rugged constitution and enjoyed the best of health the greater part of his life. Two years ago he was afflicted with an insidious disease which terminated his life on Sunday, February 21, at noon, aged 64 years, 10 days. Soon after establishing residence in Boone the family became active and consecrated members of Trinity Lutheran Church, the deceased being a regular attendant at all services and interesting himself in all activities of the church. His many friends of the community here shall miss him and extend to the family their most sincere sympathy. - Boone Daily News Republican.
