Nelson Passes Away At Home In Lawsonia RETIRED SEA CAPTAIN GOES TO HIS REWARD Old Resident Was At One Time Master Of Bay Boats And Seagoing Vessels Later Devoted His Attention To Farming And Oyster Culture. Capt. John Henry Nelson died at his home in Lawsonia on Wednesday afternoon after a lingering illness of several years. He was 84 years of age and death was due to general debility and the infirmities of age. Captain Nelson in early manhood was a seagoing man and was at different times master of bay boats and seagoing vessels, and was one of the best known skippers on the Chesapeake. The last vessel he commanded was the schooner "Thomas B. Schall." About twenty years ago, he retired from the sea and devoted his time to farming and trucking and was very successful. At one time he was engaged in the planting of oysters as a member of the Ledge Rock Oyster Co. This firm was also engaged in the packing of oysters in Crisfield. Captain Nelson's wife was Miss Bettie Lawson, daughter of the late L. Dow Lawson, who proceeded him in death about three years ago. He leaves five sons—Lorenzo, Edward, Charles Christopher, John Ray, Herman F. and Clarence Nelson, and one daughter—Miss Beatrice Nelson. Captain Nelson was a devout Christian and a consistent member of Asbury M.E. Church, and was a regular attendant at all church services until prevented by failing health. He was one of Somerset county's leading citizens and had a host of friends who will regret his passing away. Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. T. J. Sard, were held at Asbury M. E. Church yesterday (Friday) afternoon at 2 o'clock. The body was laid to rest in Asbury cemetery beside that of his late wife.
