Description	:	John Henry Schleufer, one of nine children of John Henry and Sophia Marie Sudholz Schleufer, was born February 23, 1886, on a farm in Nemaha County, near Johnson, Nebraska. He passed away August 14, 1981, at Brodstone Memorial Nuckolls County Hospital at the age of 95 years, 5 months and 22 days. March 23, 1886, Henry was baptised in to the Lutheran faith at St. Johns Lutheran Church by Pastor J.H. Dirks, later confirming his faith on April 8, 1900, also at St. Johns Lutheran Church by Pastor J.H. Dirks. He joined the Salem Lutheran Church in February of 1916, where he has been a faithful member for the rest of his life. He sang in the choir, was treasurer of the church board and a member of the Lutheran Brotherhood. Henry lived a few years in the Byron community on a farm, then lived and farmed near Nora for 51 years. He has lived the last 14 years of his life in Superior, six years of which he lived at the Good Samaritan Center. April 23, 1909, Henry was united in marriage to Augusta Torbeck at St. Johns Lutheran Church near Auburn. To this union six children were born. He was preceded in death by both of his parents; his wife, Augusta, who died November 10, 1972; 2 sons, Elmer and Walter; 2 daughters, Edna Way and Leona; 5 brothers, George, John, Martin, Otto and Fred; and 2 sisters, Adele Torbeck and Mary Weers. Survivors include a son, Lester of Superior; a daughter, Mrs. Milo (Norma) Way of Superior; a brother, Ed of Fairbury; 11 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren and a host of other relatives. Services were held Monday, August 17, at 11 a.m. at Salem Lutheran Church, rural Superior, with Pastor David Miller officiating. Pallbearers were Reuben Schleufer, Ron Hofts, Martin Tietjen, Donald Harms, Clarence Gebers and Kenneth Torbeck. "To God Be The Glory" and "The Lord Is My Sheperd (sic)" was sung by Salem Lutheran Choir and "How Great Thou Art" was sung by the congregation, with Lillian Christensen as organist. Burial was in Salem Lutheran Church Cemetery. Arrangements were by Megrue-Price Funeral Home in Superior. The Nelson Gazette, Thursday, August 20, 1981; pg. 7
