Description	:	John Hipes died at his home on East Sixth Street Sunday morning, April 21, 1912, at half past six o’clock after twelve hours illness and severe suffering. Mr. Hipes had been a sufferer for some time from arteriosclerosis, but however for the past few months he had been felling unusually well. Read More	John Hipes died at his home on East Sixth Street Sunday morning, April 21, 1912, at half past six o’clock after twelve hours illness and severe suffering. Mr. Hipes had been a sufferer for some time from arteriosclerosis, but however for the past few months he had been felling unusually well. He at a hearty supper Saturday evening and assisted with the chores but came to the house soon after and took to his bead saying he felt very sick. He continued to grow rapidly worse and his sufferings were intense until death relieved him. The deceased was born at Daneville, Indiana March 22, 1848, and was therefore 70 years and 29 days old at the time of his death. John Hipes and Miss Savilla Skinner were united in marriage December 15, 1863 at Daneville, Indiana. To this union eleven children were born, all of whom are living, the father’s being the first death in the family. The children are S. B. Hipes, Santa Barbara, California, H. C. at Auburn, Washington, J. C. of Creston, Thad and Ed who are at home, Mrs. Isaac Gill, Preston, Minnesota, Mrs. Robert Reed of Villisca, Mrs. J. L. Brandon and Mrs. J. J. McMahon of St. Joseph, Missouri, Mrs. Fred Bridwell of Villisca, and Stella Hopes of Lincoln, Nebraska. The last named expects to remain at home with her mother. Two sons, S. B. and H. C. and one daughter, Mrs. Gill, could not come for the funeral. Besides a wife and eleven children, Mr. Hipes is survived by nineteen grandchildren, one brother, William Hipes of Parson, Kansas, who was here for the funeral, and one sister, Mrs. S. Wiley of Montevista, Colorado. At Christmas time, 1910, a family reunion was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Hipes and all the children were home the last time the family were all together. Mrs. Hopes was a kind father and husband and was honored and referenced by each member of the family. He was well known and respected in and around Villisca, having moved here with his family from Missouri about seventeen years ago. The funeral services were held at the home, Tuesday afternoon at two o’clock by Rev. J. W. Taylor, pastor of the M. E. Church. The interment was in the Villisca Cemetery.
