Harper died at home on Third avenue last Friday morning of cancer. Funeral service was held at the Lutheran church Monday afternoon by Rev. A. A. Holbeck, a large congregation of old friends from this city and the country surrounding Fish creek, where they had lived for many years. attending. Music was furnished by a Quartet of Rev. and Mrs. Holbeck, Mrs. Dorman Kellogg, and Dr. L. H. Lintz. Many floral offerings, beautiful to the extreme, expressed the sorrow of many friends. Pallbearers were: Active--C.E. Crum, Fred W. Schallock, P. K. Deegan, Emmett Deegan, Frank Maxwell, Roy Osburn. Honorary--George McFarland, John P. Campbell, T. T. Olson, Gib McFarland, John Arthur, Frank Williams. Burial was in Mountain View. Deceased was born in Scotland April 12, 1861. He was married to Miss Jane Rae in his native country and at the age of 36, they came to America, settling first at White Sulphur Springs, Mont. At the end of five years, they move to the northern part of this county Fish creek, where they lived until 1926 when they sold their ranch and moved to Big Timber. He was the father of eight children, William having died in 1917. Those living are Mrs. Maggie Briggs, Guernsey, Wyo.; Mrs. Ida Ahern, Lewistown, Mont.; Mrs. Julia Scott, Phippsburg, Col.; Mrs. Jennie Miller, Twodot, Mont.; Sandy and Edward Harper of Melville; Edward Harper of Big Timber. All were present at the funeral except Mrs. Briggs. In addition, there are thirteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Deceased was a member of the Presbyterian church. By those who knew deceased, he will be remembered as an honest, hard-working, kindly man. Nearly thirty years residence in one community, no enmities, admired and respected by all is a legacy of which his family should justly feel proud. Contributor: Julia Kinsey (48922386) •
