On the 1860 Lexington, Rockbridge Co., VA census, I found printer Saml Gillock, 48; Mary P Gillock, 38; James W Gillock, 16; JOHN J Gillock, 13; Joachim Gillock, 10; Mary A Gillock, 8; Louella Gillock, 6; James S Moore, 15 and Van M Varner, 16, all VA born. Pvt. John Jacob Gillock, born 23 Mar 18446 in Lexington, enlisted in 1864. He was captured at Relay House, MD on 5 Apr 1864 and was sent to nearby Fort McHenry. He was released 30 May 1864. On 20 May 1869, Sallie Rosa Lee Davis, the daughter of Lewis Payne Davis and Minerva Jane Karnes, became the first wife of John Jacob Gillock, in Lexington, VA. On the 1880 Lexington, Rockbridge Co., VA census, I found U.S. Internal Rev. Officer JOHN J. Gillock, 34; Sallie R. Gillock, 27; Ada G. Gillock, 9; Bessie R. Gillock, 7; James W. Gillock, 6; Harry Gillock, 4; Sallie E. Gillock, 3 and John D. Gillock, 3, all VA (sic) born. His wife Sally dies on 17 Apr 1883. Two years later, John marries second to Rebecca Motherspaugh, on 23 May 1885 in Rockbridge Co., VA. On the 1900 Lexington, Rockbridge Co., VA census, I found bookkeeper John Gillock, 56, born Mar 1844, married 14 yrs to wife Rebeckia, 34, Apr 1866, had 4 kids, 3 living; Ross F, 13, Jun 1886; Nellie A, 11, Jun 1888; Rue L, 8, Oct 1891 and Albert H, 18, Sep 1881, all VA born. On the 1910 Lexington, Rockbridge Co., VA census, I found bookkeeper John Gillock, 60; wife of 25 years, Rebecca Gillock, 45, had 5 kids, 4 living; dau & sons: Nellie Gillock, 17; Lee Gillock, 16 and Howard Gillock, 9, all VA born. John "P" Gillock, a white married male, died 27 Feb 1917 of cerebral hemorrhage with hemiplegri___, born 23 Mar 1846 in Lexington, aged 70 yrs, 11 mo, and 4 dys, a bookkeeper at drug store, the son of Saml Gillock and Susan Klice, Ross F Gillock of Lexington reported, buried Lexington. The Rockbridge Co., VA Death Registers, 1853-1870 and 1912-1917, by Angela M Ruley, 1991, p 335. Other Gillocks are buried in this lot. His 1st wife, Sallie R Davis Gillock, 11 Sep 1852 - 5 Apr 1884 and his 2nd wife, Rebecca Y Motherspaugh Gillock, is also in lot 619, #7.
