He was a graduate of Nelson High School and attended the University of Nebraska. Mr. Harris was employed by the Swanee Paper Co., Ransom and for Clarks Summit, where he was general superintendent for the R.L. Richardson Construction Co. He was a member of the Clarks Summit United Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder and deacon. Survivors are his widow, Flora (Smith) Harris; two sons, Joel of Dublin, Pennsylvania, and Scott of Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania; a daughter, Mrs. Maureen Davis of Seattle, Washington; two brothers, Frank of Nelson and Dr. George of Cambridge; sister, Miss Mary Harris of North Plainfield, New Jersey; three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were Tuesday, May 16, from the Clarks Summit United Presbyterian Church. Those from out-of-town attending the funeral were Mrs. Maureen Davis, Joel Harris, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Harris, Miss Mary Harris, Dr. and Mrs. Geo. Harris and Lois Harris of Orange, California. The Nelson Gazette (Nelson, NE), Thursday, May 25, 1978; pg. 8 ====== Memorial Service Saturday A memorial service for John Harris (brother of Frank Harris) will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Smith Cemetery. In case of rain the service will be at the church. John passed away in 1978. He was cremated. Following the memorial service all will gather at the American Legion's Banquet Hall in Nelson to visit. They gathered to bury the ashes of John Lawrence Harris near his parents in Smith Cemetery. The service was conducted by Ralph Sturdy, Pastor of the Community United Church of Christ in Nelson. The brother of Frank and George Harris, John died in 1978 in Pennsylvania, but now he has been brought home to rest in the area where he was born and grew up. Following the memorial service, the Harris family gathered at the American Legion's Banquet Hall in Nelson for fellowship. Family members came from as far as the east and west coasts, as well as from the local area. Family members gathering for the special homecoming included John's wife, Flora, and daughter, Maura Davis, both of Seattle, Washington, and two sons, Joel and family and Scott, both of Pennsylvania; Frank Harris of Nelson; Glenn and Piedad Harris of Spring Valley, California, and their daughter, Michelle; Jim and Agnes Harris of Hastings; Mike and Marge Caldwell of Lincoln; George and Norma Harris of Manchester, Tennessee, and their daughter, Sandra Leeders and her son of Omaha.
