Son of Benjamin Butler White and Sarah Ellen Ashba OBITUARY THE CHARITON LEADER Chariton, Iowa Tuesday, March 17, 1959 JOHN LAWRENCE WHITE John Lawrence White, son of Benjamin and Ellen White, was born May 19, 1880, near Russell, and passed from this life March 10, 1959, at Collins Hospital, Knoxville, Iowa, at the age of 78 years, nine months and 18 days. He lived his entire life in the Bethel community near Russell. He received his education at the White and Cedar Grove schools. On April 5, 1905, he was married to Margaret Hagen, and they made their home in the Bethel community. To this union two sons were born: Basal of Knoxville and Harold of River Grove, Ill. Those preceding him in death were his wife, Margaret, who passed away Dec. 5, 1957; his parents; two brothers, Floyd and Shelby; and three sisters, Julia, Myrtle and Arminta. He leaves to mourn his passing besides his sons, a brother, Thomas of Chariton, a sister, Alice of Medicine Lake, Mont., two daughters-in-law, Emma and Tillie, five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, other relatives and many friends. Lawrence was a member of the Bethel Evangelical United Brethren church. He loved to sing the hymns of his church and many will long remember his bass voice. His favorite pastime was to play the piano and harmonica. He had been in failing health for several months. On Sunday evening, March 1, he became worse. He entered the hospital the following day, where he continued to fail until his death. Funeral services were held Friday, March 13, at the Beardsley Funeral Home, with the Rev.
