Johnston, passed away at the home of his nephew, W. J. Fleming, on Wednesday, April 14, 1948. He was the son of the late Thomas Johnston and Mary Jane Watson, and came with his parents from near Brampton when he was 5 years old. He was married to the late Ellen Mills, who predeceased him 45 years ago. A son, Thomas John, was killed in the first World War, and a daughter, Ethel, died 28 years ago. Mr. Johnston was a builder by trade and was well known far and wide. He was a member of the Orange Order for a great many years and a member of Wesley United Church, Horning's Mills. The funeral, which was held from the Gamble Funeral Home, Shelburne, on Friday, April 16th, in charge of Rev. Fred Jackson, of Horning's Mills, was largely attended by relatives and friends. Interment was made in Shelburne Cemetery. The pallbearers were: Arthur Webster, James Brown, Thomas Johnston, William Johnston, Ross Johnston, Geo. Fraser. Pearsall and Grant, Mr. and Mrs. Wes Higgins and Mr. and Mrs. Garnet Higgins, the Watson family, Mr. and Mrs. Robt. Mills, Mr. and Mrs. Russell Mills, Mrs. John Oliver and Ray and Ida; Bouquet - Vivian and Larry Fleming. Flower bearers - Will Martin, John Johnston, Carl Bates, Os.
