Mr. Johnston had been enjoying fairly good health up to within about five days of his death. When he became ill the family physician was called and pronounced it a case of pneumonia. Everything possible was done to cope with the dreaded disease, but in spite of all that human skill could do he gradually grew worse until Tuesday morning, when he passed away. Deceased was in his 84th year. Mr. Johnston was of a hardy, robust constitution, and few could swing a cradle or use an axe better than he used to do on his farm. He was in politics a Conservative and an ardent worker in the Orange order, being 66 years in connection with it. He filled all offices in the order up to District Master, being W. M. of Masonville Lodge No. 1201 for many years. Bros. Thos. Ferguson, Dr. Barr and the deceased were members of the said lodge, and during their time the lodge flourished. As a neighbor he was kind and obliging and many will miss his counsel and encouragement. As a husband he was affectionate and indulgent and to his widow and family the loss is irreparable. The funeral took place on Friday under the auspices of the Orange Order, to Shelburne cemetery, a short service being conducted at the home by Rev. W. J. Tribble. Mr. Johnston was born in Armagh, Ireland, in 1827, and after coming to this country he worked at Edmonton, in Chinguacousy township, for a few years, after which he located on the farm on which he resided till the time of his death. He is survived by a widow, four sons and one daughter. The sons are William, John, George and Thomas, and the daughter is Mrs. Wm. Fleming, all of Melancthon. The pall bearers were his four sons, his son-in-law, and a nephw, Thos. J. Watson.
