Ward was born on a farm near Campbellsport, Fond du Lac county, Wisconsin, February 6,1853. He died at his home in Geneva, Neb., March 27, 1930, aged 77 years, 1 month and 21 days. February 8, 1877, he was married to Aurilla E. Matteson. To this union six children were born, two dying in infancy and one, Percy, in young manhood. There survive him his wife, two sons, George R. and Harry M., and one daughter, Mrs. Ella M. Brooke, seven grandchildren and one great-grandson, also one sister Mrs. Thomas Manion, of Fond du Lac, Wis., and one brother, James of Milwaukee, Wis., and two half-brothers, Thomas of Minneapolis, Kas, and Matthew of Idaho. Mr. and Mrs. Ward and son George came to Nebraska in February, 1879, and settled on a farm two and one-half miles west of Exeter, where they farmed until 1884, when they sold that farm and bought the fine half section four miles north of Geneva where, with hard work, strict honesty and good judgment and a hearty welcome to all they accumulated a fine estate and were friends of all who had the pleasure of knowing them. Sixteen years ago they retired from the farm and moved to their present home in Geneva. Mr. Ward was president of the Fillmore County Farmers Mutual Insurance Co. from its organization until his health failed three years ago. He was chairman of the county board of supervisors for six years. He served two terms in the Nebraska legislature. He was chairman of the republican county committee for a number of years and he built up a strong organization. Mr. Ward was a past master of Geneva Lodge No. 79 A.F. and A.M., a member of the Eastern Star, a Royal Arch Mason, a member of Naomi council and a thirty-second degree Scottish Rite Mason. The public has lost a good citizen, a faithful servant and a genial friend in the passing of Mr. Ward. The funeral was held at the home at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, March 30, Rev. David Tudor of the Congregational church officiating. Interment was in the Geneva cemetery. The Masonic order was in charge at the grave. Out of town relatives and friends who attended the funeral of Mr. Ward included Thomas Ward of Minneapolis, Kas., Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Matteson. Lieutenant Governor and Mrs. George A. Williams, C. J. Watson, John A. Anderson, Mr. and Mrs. Myra Ayres of Lincoln, Leo Ayres of Milford, James Kelly, E. J.
