Ward on May 15, 1888, and died at the Fillmore County hospital at age 89 years, 5 months and 8 days. He was graduated from Geneva high school in 1905, and attended the University of Nebraska. On January 20, 1913, he was united in marriage to Rosella Tatro. Into this home came four children: Delma Butterbaugh, deceased; Doris Story of Plainview, Neb.; Jean Emery of Geneva and Donald Ward, on the family farm near Geneva. Rosella died on August 6, 1950. From birth to retirement he lived on the family farm. On December 11, 1960, he was united in marriage to Ruth Hedlund Wythers. They made their home in Geneva. He entered the hospital in April, 1974, where he remained until his death. He united with the Congregational church in 1925. He was a member of the Geneva Lodge No. 65, I.O.O.F. and various other farm-related organizations. Harry, as he was always called, was a lover of animals and enjoyed working with them. He had a great respect for the land and one of his greatest pleasures was watching things grow. He nurtured his children and his grandchildren in a quiet , special way. He liked all sports and enjoyed the World Series on television just a few days before his passing. He was a much respected man in this community. It has been said of him, "Harry never laid a straw in any man's path". Preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers, one sister, his first wife, Rosella, and one daughter, Delma. Left to mourn are his widow, Ruth; his daughters, Doris and Jean; his son, Donald, and daughter-in-law, Shirley; 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; Ruth's children and grandchildren; and other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted from the First Congregational United Church of Christ at 2 p.m. Tuesday, October 25, 1977, with Rev. Jay Funk officiation. Miss Lorri Barbur was organist. Pallbearers were Ashley Story, John Ward, John Emery, Fred Fisher, Jesse Richards and Ronald Tatro. Interment was in the Geneva cemetery.
