Daughter of Solomon Marker and Hannah Kreitzer OBITUARY THE CHARITON HERALD-PATRIOT Chariton, Iowa Thursday, November 26, 1942 MARY JANE CURTIS Mary Jane Marker, youngest daughter of Solomon and Hannah Marker, was born at Greenville, Ohio, August 22, 1852, and passed quietly away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Blanche Eubank, in Des Moines, Iowa, on October 25, 1942, at the age of 90 years, 2 months and 3 days. She was the last of a family of nine children. With her parents, she pioneered to Ottercreek township in Lucas county, Iowa, about the time of the Civil War. They made their first home in a one room log cabin where the United Brethren parsonage now stands. On March 1, 1874, she was united in marriage to William Noah Curtis, who passed away Nov. 8, 1917. To this union three children were born, Mrs. Blanche Eubank, of Des Moines, and Mrs. Mae Marker and Clark E. Curtis, of Lucas, all of whom survive her. She was baptized and confirmed by Brother Robert M. Elvin into the church of the Latter Day Saints on June 14, 1896 and remained ever true to that faith. Besides her children, she is survived by eight grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and many friends. She was always very active, enjoyed good health and accepted the modern ways of living and dressing almost like young people do. She has been a joy and an inspiration to all who came in contact with her and acquaintances are truly grateful to have had her in our midst so many years. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Russell, of Des Moines, assisted by Rev. James Robinson, of Knoxville,, on Oct. 27, at the Latter Day Saints church near Norwood, and she was laid to rest beside her husband in the Graceland cemetery. Obituary courtesy of Charles M. Wright
