Read More	John McNulty Dies After Long Illness John McNulty, 83, died Saturday at the Mercy hospital in Des Moines, where he had lived since July 1944. Cancer was pronounced as the immediate cause of his death, although he had not been in good health for several years. Mr. McNulty had lived in Des Moines for nearly two years, part of the time with his son, Mark, and then at a convalescent home for a while, before he was taken to the Mercy hospital 11 months ago. John McNulty was born on June 8, 1852, at Salem, Kenosha county, Wisconsin, the son of Lawrence and Margaret Gallager McNulty, both of whom had been born in Ireland. He had two brothers, Patrick and Tony, and three sisters, Nellie, mary and Margaret, all of whom preceded him in death. The family moved to Silver lake, near Chicago. Mr. McNulty came to Mitchell county, Iowa, at the age of 20 and worked for Francis Paddock near Brownville. July 26, 1887, he married Elizabeth Fesenmeyer of near Riceville, and they left shortly after for Silver Lake, Illinois, the home of his parents, where they lived for a year and a half, and where their son, Mark, was born. In 1889, they moved back to this county and purchased a farm in Jenkins township, near McIntire where they lived until 1920 and where two other children, Loren and Marjorie, were born. Loren grew to manhood and after his marriage, he and his father were in partnership in the purebred cattle business. Loren died in 1920 and the livestock and other property was all disposed of. Mr. and Mrs. McNulty moved to Osage the following year and purchased a home, where they lived for the following 15 years. During the time he lived in Osage, he was an active democrat, serving as county chairman of the party for several years. He was acting postmaster for several months, during the early 1930's, and was later District Couurt bailiff for several years. He is survived by his son, Mark, of Des Moines; a daughter, marjorie McNulty Christianson, of Seattle, Washington; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. The grandchildren are: Lloyd McNulty, serving in Germany, Helen McNulty Holland and John Christianson. One grandchild, Donald McNulty, preceded him in death. The great-grandchild is Mark Everett Holland. His funeral was Monday, June 11, 1945, at the Sacred Heart Church with burial in Riverside cemetery at Riceville.
