Read More	Americus Ledger - December 4, 1885 IN MEMORY OF NICHOLAS LOY DIED – At his home in Americus, November 30th, 1885, NICHOLAS LOY, in the 60th year of his age. Bro. Loy was born in Perry Co., Pennsylvania, May 19, 1826. He was married to Miss Maria Hall on March 11th, 1847, and moved to Illinois the following April. In the spring of 1857 they moved to Missouri, and in1861 they came to Kansas, locating near Americus and Lyon county, where he identified himself with the financial, moral and religious interests of this new and growing country, and had the pleasure of seeing a measure of success crowning all his efforts. He lived a faithful, consistent and Christian life for about 49 years. He was a good neighbor, a kind husband and father, and a patriotic citizen. He leaves surviving him a widow, three sons and three daughters to cherish his memory and emulate his example. Funeral services were held at M. E. Church by Rev. Baldwin assisted by Rev. Lineback, and was listened to by the largest gathering ever assembled in the church. After the services were concluded, the remains were conveyed to the cemetery followed by a large number of carriages, testifying to the high esteem in which the community held the deceased. IN MEMORIAM ON THE DEATH OF NICHOLAS LOY With saddened hearts we laid him in the grave, With hope triumphant laid his dust to dust, God owned him through the power of one to save, He owned his God, through simple faith and trust. Quick came the angel, waving death's dark plume, Quick did he strike the weary wanderer down, And gently bore him a happier home, To realms eternal, and a glittering crown. In the fetid dark sepulcher there lies The casket that the soul did use on earth, Beyond the soul in spirit form, it flies, Receiving from its God its nobler birth. Kind, noble friend, paid thee fon adieu, Thou has seen the portals of a brighter day, My heart reveres thee as amongst the few, Accept this tribute of my feeble lay. An honest man, an honest man full bent, No seeker of loud fame, or false applause. A kind simplicity was thy intent, Thy heart was ever in an innocent cause. Full of rich sympathy, a kindly smile, From every form of affection free, A man whose heart there was no guile, God never made a man purer than thee. I would not praise the with a fulsome pen, Thou had'st thy faults, ah! That indeed was true, Thy lot was not with angels, but with men, They wonder is thy faults were so few. I'd write the epitaph on marble plate, Large would I write that the world might scan, Here lies the dust of one who knew no hate, God's noblest work, an honest man. by J. W.
