His mother passed away when he was seven years old, and his father 10 years later. He was forced to leave the Glasco community during the depression and find work elsewhere. He resided a time at Concordia, Jewell, and in 1944 went to Downs to live with his daughter, Maggie...He joined St. Paul's Lutheran church at Glasco as a boy. In later years he united with the Christian church. He was a devout Christian everywhere he went...Pete was united in marriage to Suzanna Worley on September 3, 1903 and to this union 10 children, five boys and five girls, were born. One son, Lewis, and two daughters, LeVeda and Irene, preceded him in death. He leaves in mourning seven children; Mrs. Maggie (William) Roach, Downs, Kansas; Mrs. Roshia Belle (John) Snook, Cornelius, Oregon; Mrs. Myrtle (George) Rhineberger, Globe Arizona; Paul Grittman, Simpson, Kansas; Martin Grittman, Beloit, Kansas; Junior Grittman, Hillsboro, Oregon; John Theodore Grittman, Hillsboro, Oregon. Also 28 grandchildren; one step-grandchild; one great grandchild, and numerous other relatives and friends...Funeral services conducted Saturday afternoon at St Paul's Lutheran church with Pastor Eugene Smith reading the service. A quartet composed of Mrs. Harold Dalrymple, Mrs. Dick Martin, Max Martin and Pastor Smith sang "Abide With Me" and "Asleep in Jesus". Pallbearers were Arnold Snyder, Simpson, Kans., Gus Liedtke, Emil Liedtke, Albert Grittman, Rudolph Grittman, Ray Studt, all of Glasco. The body was interred in the Glasco cemetery.
