Peterson was born in Sweden, January 9, 1842, and passed away at his home at White Bear, Minn., November 8, 1917, aged 75 years, 9 months, 29 days. He came to this country with his parents in 1849, and enlisted in the Union Army October 1, 1861. He was discharged from the service November 9, 1862, on account of illness, and was in feeble health during the rest of his life from the illness contracted in the service. Peterson was born in Sweden, January 9, 1842, and passed away at his home at White Bear, Minn., November 8, 1917, aged 75 years, 9 months, 29 days. He came to this country with his parents in 1849, and enlisted in the Union Army October 1, 1861. He was discharged from the service November 9, 1862, on account of illness, and was in feeble health during the rest of his life from the illness contracted in the service. Returning to this vicinity, he was united in marriage to Miss Dorothy Sophia Engstrom, March 20, 1869 [1870], who passed this life May 13, 1901. He was many years postmaster at Pilot Mound, and lived for a time in California. He afterwards moved to Brainard, Minn., the rest of his life being spent there and White Bear, where he died. He is survived by his only two children, D.A. Peterson of Brainard, and Mrs. H.D. Simons of White Bear, Minn., and by two sisters, Mrs. Matilda Holmes of Riverton, Minn., and Mrs. Julia Newstrand of Duluth, Minn. He was brought to this place, where his funeral was held on Saturday at the home of his nephew, L.F. Newstrand, and his remains laid to rest beside those of his wife in Dayton cemetery. He was highly respected by all who knew him, a good neighbor and a loving father. As one of the pioneers of this region, he lived to see the many changes that have taken place, and a host of pioneer neighbors and friends sympathize with the bereaved family in their sorrow.
