He was born November 25, 1883 in Big Springs, Tex., and came to the county 72 years ago with his family. Read More	OBIT: John Peter Hille, 87, of 11840 Telegraph Road, Santa Paula, pioneer county agriculturalist, philanthropist and civic leader, died Wednesday night in Santa Paula Memorial Hospital following a long illness. He was born November 25, 1883 in Big Springs, Tex., and came to the county 72 years ago with his family. He and his two brothers, who preceded him in death, became prominent in the farming industry in the county. He held many county farm positions, including the presidency of the Saticoy Walnut Growers Association. He was known for his philanthropies to the area, funding many worthwhile projects for area hospitals, schools and churches. He and his wife, Grace, were responsible for launching the funding which led to the construction of the Santa Paula Hospital where he died. In 1953, the Thilles were named as Santa Paula's Distinguished Citizens of the Year for their numerous contributions to the community. Culturally, he was a staunch supporter of the Ventura County Symphony and supported a number of young People in their efforts to obtain a higher education. Besides his wife, he is survived by a sister, Mary, of Santa Paula; a niece, Mrs. Louis Kennedy of Palos Verdes Estates; and a nephew, John Thille of Saticoy. Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the Sacred Heart Church, Saticoy. Requiem Mass will be celebrated at the church at 10:30 a.m. Monday, with the Rev. Arnold Biedermann as celebrant. Friends may make memorial contributions to the Santa Paula Memorial Hospital. Burial will be in the Santa Paula Cemetery. The Press Courier, March 12, 1971
