Henneschiedt Dies This Morning at Home of Daughter After Long Illness' John Philip Henneschiedt, 93, one of the oldest residents of Cass county and native of Germany, died at 10 o'clock this morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Annie Lang, 300 East Fourth street, following a long illness with complications incident to old age. Mr. Henneschiedt had made his home in this county for fifty-six years. Deceased was born in Rhine, Germany, February 13, 1837, and came to the United States in 1854, locating at Hazelton, PA. He was married in Pennsylvania to Miss Elizabeth Gerlach and moved to Illinois in 1868, coming to Noble township, this county, in 1874. He had made his home in Atlantic for the last twenty-three years. Seven children were born to this union, four children having preceded him in death. Mrs. Henneschiedt died July 27, 1882. The surviving children are Mrs. Lang and Mrs. Elizabeth Weideman of Atlantic and Chris Henneschiedt of Spencer, S. D. Twenty-two grandchildren, fifty -six great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Roland, Peacock & Baxer funeral home. The Rev. William Mack, pastor of the First Presbyterian church, will officiate and interment will be made in the Weirich Cemetery. - Obituary: Cass County History (1980), p. 272.; Obituary, Des Moines (IA) Sunday Register; May 4, 1930; - There is record of a second marriage to Elizabeth Heintz from the records of Christ Lutheran Church in Hazleton, Pa. The wedding took place on January 17, 1884. He is buried next to his first wife. Records state John Philip Hinneschiedt of Noble Twp., Cass Co., Iowa and Elizabeth Heintz of Jeddo. Witnesses were Joseph Holler and wife Elizabeth (J.P.'s sister & her husband), Caroline (J.P.'s sister) and Catherine Elizabeth Lanzer (Caroline's daughter-in-law).
