Description	:	Cedar Rapids Evening Gazette July 7, 1911 John Lanning, the oldest son of Richard and Jostenah Lanning was born in Tuscawarwas county, Ohio, November 22, 1822. He came to Iowa in the spring of 1854 with his parents and located near Lafayette, Linn county, and had lived in that locality since then. He was always interested in the affairs that affected his community and took an active interest in what was for its good and was a useful and respected citizen. Read More	Cedar Rapids Evening Gazette July 7, 1911 John Lanning, the oldest son of Richard and Jostenah Lanning was born in Tuscawarwas county, Ohio, November 22, 1822. He came to Iowa in the spring of 1854 with his parents and located near Lafayette, Linn county, and had lived in that locality since then. He was always interested in the affairs that affected his community and took an active interest in what was for its good and was a useful and respected citizen. On the 28th of April, 1858, he married Miss Margaret Jane Thomas, who survives him. To their union four children were born--Joe D. of Pasadena, Cal., Ben E. Rowley of Center Point, Iowa, Edgar M., of Alburnett, Iowa, and Owen W., who died in infancy. In September 1872, he was baptized by Elder N.A. McConnell, and became an active faithful worker in the church of Christ. He served the Christian church at Lafayette as an elder for years and was an elder in the Alburnett church from the date of its organization. After a few years of failing health he died July 3, at the age of 88 years. He leaves a wife, a daughter, two sons, three grandchildren, a brother, Jacob M. of Cornith, Miss., besides other relatives and many friends. The funeral services were held in the Lafayette church. Eldred M. Starr preached the sermon and Elder W.T. Stevenson assisted. Interment was in the Lafayette cemetery.
