Read More	Harlan County Journal, Alma, Nebr., March 25, 1932 Obituary The subject of this sketch, John Riley Husband, the seconsd son of John S. and Nancy Jordon Husband, was born in Taylor County, Iowa, December 5, 1860. When he was a boy of 18, the family, consisting of father and mother and several children, went to Kansas to make their home. They settled on a farm near Stockton, Rook County, Kansas. A year or two of fighting praire fires, building sod houses, cradling grain and going to the mill was enough for him, so with his cousins he went back home to Iowa. Being a ferryman on the Old Muddy at Nebraska City failed to hold any charms for him, so he joined a freighter's crew and went to Wyoming in the early eighties. In 1889 he took homestead in Grove county, Kansas. In the early 90's he moved to Minden, Nebraska. He met Mamie E. Seberg at Axtel, and they were married at her home near Upland, January 9, 1894. As many generations back as can be traced the Husbands were not only builders of brick, stone and wood, but were also builders of strong and quite characters. Like father, like son, he ran true to course and followed this trade for 50 years, and many towns of central and west Nebraska and Kansas bear testimony of his work. In the fall of 1894, they moved to Kansas, then to the farm six miles south of Alma, later moving to Upland. January 1, 1904, he moved to Alma, having contracted for the building of the Harlan County Bank building and several other jobs, and has been a continuous resident of this town ever since. Tuesday he took his bed. Flu and heart trouble did their work and he passed away at midnight, March 18, 1932, at the age of 71 years, 3 months and 13 days. He leaves to mourn his death, his loving tender wife; seven children: Lulu Bright of Wallace, Nebr.; J. V. Husband of North Platte, Nebr; Grace Imhof of Seldon, Kansas; Nancy Ibsen of Upland, Nebr.; Iva and Pearle of Alma; six grandchildren; three brothers: Pete S. of Aztec, N. M.; William and P. D. of Alma; three sisters: Mrs. C. A. Fleming of Penokee, Kansas, Mrs. Rachael Frost of Goodland, Kansas, and Miss Emma Husband of Alma; besides a host of other relatives and friends. While not affiliated with any church, he publicly acknowledged Christ several years ago and has left many good examples and tender memories to his loved ones and hundreds of friends. Interment was made in the Alma Cemetery.
