Pittsburg Daily Headlights, Page 3 Tues, evening Dec 30, 1913: Obituary- John R. Leach John R. Leach who died near Fowler, Kans. Dec 19, as a result of exposure, was born at Everett, Pennsylvania Feb 21, 1831. He was married on Jan. 15, 1858 to Miss Anna M. Reather (I know it is Reuther) and in 1869 they left Pennsylvania and came to Cass county, MO. Three years later they moved to Crawford County, Kans. Locating near the present site of Englevale. In 1906 Mr. Leach went to Meade County in the interest of a real estate firm, where he lived until his death. A wife and three daughters survive. The daughters are Mrs. J. M. Engle of Englevale, Mrs. W. L. Baysinger of Pittsburg and Mrs. J. W. Powell of LeVila, Colo. A brother also is living in Everett, Penn. Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec 27, at the Church of God in Englevale, Rev. Morgan officiating. Girard Press January 1, 1914 Leach -- Near Fowler, Kas, Dec. 19th, 1913, from exposure, R.L.Leach, aged 87 years old. The body was shipped to Englevale, his former home, and the funeral service took place at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Jerry M. Engle, last Saturday. (actually his name should be J. R. Leach) My great cousin, Alfred Engle's mother Neoma who was wife of Cecil Engle told me "A neighbor baked bread for John R. Leach and he had gone to pick it up from the neighbor lady. They think he had a heart attack on the way back to his house and died. It was really cold probably a blizzard - the little dog (John's) didn't even bother the bread - some of the neighbors found him - the little dog stayed with him" ... "Anna Reuther Leach divorced him and he went from Englevale to western Kansas."
