He was born March 24, 1947, in Surry County to the late John Fletcher and Sadie Mae Beck Shelton. A devoted father, grandfather, brother and friend, Mr. Shelton was the owner of John R. Shelton Construction and also spent many years farming tobacco throughout the area. He was a member of Pinnacle View Baptist Church and served in the U.S. Army from 1964 to 1968. He was born March 24, 1947, in Surry County to the late John Fletcher and Sadie Mae Beck Shelton. A devoted father, grandfather, brother and friend, Mr. Shelton was the owner of John R. Shelton Construction and also spent many years farming tobacco throughout the area. He was a member of Pinnacle View Baptist Church and served in the U.S. Army from 1964 to 1968. He is survived by a daughter, April Jenille Shelton, of Cary; two sons and daughters-in-law, John Travis Shelton and wife, Beverly, of Germanton and William Kane Shelton and wife, Charity, of Pilot Mountain; two granddaughters, Elizabeth Ann Shelton and Lena Rose Shelton; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Glenna and Dwight Bullington of Pinnacle and Lois and Wayne Tilley of Pilot Mountain; and three brothers and sisters-in-law, Eugene and Betty Shelton of Pinnacle, Wayne and Hilda Shelton of Rural Hall and Kenneth and Susan Shelton of Pilot Mountain. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 20, 2002, at Pinnacle View Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Ronnie Chamblin, the Rev. Forrest Fulton and the Rev. Thomas Beck. Interment will follow at Pinnacle View Baptist Church Cemetery, with full military honors conducted by VFW Post 2019 and Pilot Mountain Post 9436. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 this evening, June 19, 2002, at Cox-Needham Funeral Home in Pilot Mountain.
