Sterling, one of Crisfield's most highly respected citizens, died suddenly at his home in this city on Friday afternoon of last week. He had apparently been in good health, but suffered a sudden heart attack Friday afternoon which proved fatal. He was seventy- five years of age. Sterling, one of Crisfield's most highly respected citizens, died suddenly at his home in this city on Friday afternoon of last week. He had apparently been in good health, but suffered a sudden heart attack Friday afternoon which proved fatal. He was seventy- five years of age. The deceased was a son of the late James B. and Sallie R. Sterling. He was well known in Crisfield and had many friends here who will mourn his death. He was for many years employed by the Pennsylvania Railroad on the old N. Y. P. & N. line, as assistant conductor. After leaving the employ of that company, he served on the local police force, and served as the Chief of Police in Crisfield for many years. During the latter part of his life he served as Superintendent of Streets. The deceased is survived by his widow, Mrs. Stella Sterling, four children, Mrs. Lloyd Mears, and Mrs. F. J. Graf of Long Island, N. Y.; Mrs. Herbert Johnson, and Mrs. Ernest Poulson of Delmar, Del, and six grandchildren. One brother, Mr. George V. Sterling of the Mariners section, and one sister, Mrs. George Crockett of Crisfield, also survive. He was a member of the Junior Order of United American Mechanics and was also a member of the Patriotic Order Sons of America. Funeral services were held at Mt. Pleasant M. P. Church on Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. W. L. Hoffman and Rev. John J. Bunting. Pallbearers were William Byrd, Raymond Woodland, William Sterling, Harold Sterling, Carroll Gunby, and Early Lane. Interment was in the Crisfield cemetery. The Crisfield Times, March 25, 1933 pg.1
