After a lingering illness of several months duration, Shelby Barton died at the home of his parents north of Clarence at 9 o'clock Wednesday morning. John Shelby Barton, son of Fee Barton and Emma Susan Smith, was born June 5, 1903, near Lentner, and was --aring his 25th birthday at the time of his death. He has lived his entire life in this vicinity with the exception of one year which he spent in a sanitarium at Colorado in hopes that the climate might be of benefit to his health. When he did not improve he returned home to be near his father and mother and loved ones during the remainder of his life. He was admired by his many friends and relatives for his kindly ways and the patient manner in which he endured his last illness. He was calm in the face of approaching death and talked with the family concerning his readiness to go, and made requests concerning his funeral. Besides his father and mother, he leaves five brothers, James Lloyd and Nelson of Kansas City, William, Thornton and Fletcher at home; and a sister, Mary Wood Barton also at home. One sister, Mrs. Carrie W. Bennett, preceded him in death. Many other relatives and friends regret the passing of this fine young man. The funeral services will be held Friday morning at 11 o'clock at Bacon Chapel, conducted by Revs. L. C. Maggart and Chas. Reep. Members of the Modern Woodmen Camp, of which he was a member, will attend the funeral in a body and will conduct the services at the grave.
