Read More	Husband of Josephine Novotny OBITUARY: Pocahontas Record, Pocahontas, Iowa, Thursday, August 17, 1911, Page 3, Column 3 Another Old Settler Gone John Sinek, one of the old settlers of this township passed away last Wednesday night at 10:30, after an illness of about two months with cancer of the stomach. He was born in Bohemia July 20, 1839, and was just past 72 years of age at the time of his death. John Sinek was married to Miss Josephine Nevotna on January 31, 1863 and came to America in 1867, locating at Chicago where they made their home for ten years. In 1877, Mr. Sinek and family moved to Iowa, settling on the northwest quarter of Section 28, Center township, and where they made their home until 1906 when they moved to Pocahontas. To Mr. and Mrs. Sinek were born six children, two dying in infancy, the only daughter, Mrs. John P. Bartosh passing away in May, 1910, there being three sons still living, Frank, Joseph and James, the latter making his home with his parents. About two weeks before his death Mr. Sinek was taken to Mercy Hospital, Des Moines, in the hopes that an operation might prolong his life, but on account of his age and the advanced stage of the disease it was not thought best to operate. The funeral services were held at Sts. Peter and Paul's church, Saturday forenoon, Rev. Father Duda conducting the services and which were largely attended. - - - - - OBITUARY: Pocahontas Democrat, Pocahontas, Iowa, Thursday, August 17, 1911, Page 3, Column 3 John Sinek was a native of Austria, born July 12, 1839, and died Wednesday, August 9, at his home in Pocahontas, was married in that country, January 31, 1836 [should read 1863] to Miss Josephine Nevotna. They came to America 1867, making their home in Chicago, for ten years, then they came west and located on the northwest quarter of section 28, Center township, where the family resided until 1906, when they moved to Pocahontas. Six children were born to this union, two died in infancy, and the one daughter, Mrs. W.J. Bartosh [should read Mrs. J. P. Bartosh], died May 27, 1910. Those living are Frank J. and Joseph J. of Center township, and James A. of Pocahontas, left with the mother to mourn the death of the father and husband. The funeral was held Saturday forenoon service being conducted in St. Peter and Paul's church by Father Duda and the remains were interred in the Catholic cemetery. Contributed by Teresa, #49560808
