Hope John Stewart Hope was born in Westmoreland county, Penn., November 25, 1835, and died at his home in Ottumwa, Iowa, September 8, 1924, aged 88 years, 9 months and __ days. He moved with his parents from Pennsylvania to Birmingham, Iowa in 1852, which place has been his residence until three years ago when he moved to Ottumwa, Iowa. He was married to Margaret Jane McDonald, January 20, 1862, her death occurnig (sp: occurring) on February 21, 1897. To this union were born four sons and two daughters, one son dying in infancy. Hope, Garden City, Kansas; Jenesse Hope and Mrs. George Prosser of Ottumwa; also twelve grandchildren; one-sister, Mrs. N.J. Moore in Glendale, Cal. The funeral service was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Ruggles in Birmingham, on Wednesday morning, at 10:30, conducted by Rev. Peter Bock of Russell, Iowa, assisted by Rev. J.L. Coleman of the local Presbyterianchurch (sic: Presbyterian church). Two appropriate special numbers were sung by Mr. and Mrs. Glen Williams. Interment in the Maple Hill cemetery.
