Description	:	Johnnie C. Poe, 86, of Madison went home to be with his Lord and Savior on August 3, 2015. He is the son of the late Carl Poe and Brady White Poe of Bim, WV. Johnnie was also preceded in death by his first wife Betty Pauley Poe and his second wife Ethel Cook Poe. He is survived by his four daughters and families: Regina (Ken) Baldwin of Johnson City, TN., Sandra (Tim) Dunbar of Albuquerque NM., Phyllis (Shawn) Anderson of Virginia Beach VA., and Mary (Mark) Linville of Madison. He also leaves behind four grandchildren: Treavor and Maxwell Dunbar of Albuquerque, NM, Nicholas Anderson of Virginia Beach, VA., and Nathaniel Linville of Morgantown, WV. Johnnie was retired from the United States Navy as a Storekeeper First Class, with 25 years of active and reserve duty. He had also retired from Central Supply Company of Westmoreland Coal and Eastern States Mine Supply. He graduated from Van High School before joining the Navy. Being proud of his military service, he often spoke of the service to his country, and the ports he served throughout his military life. Most people in the community knew Johnnie as the “candy man” as he handed out butterscotch candy to everyone and anyone he met and always said them “Here, have a vitamin”. This was only part of the generosity he showed to others. Special thanks to the doctors, physician extenders, nurses and the staff of Boone Memorial Hospital. Also thanks to Aaron and Jennifer Moore for the care, love and compassion shown over these past few years. Johnnie was a member of the West Madison Baptist Church and served in various capacities within the church since 1991. Visitation will be at Handley Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 5th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm with funeral services Thursday, August 6, 2015 at 11:00 am at the funeral home with the Rev. James Browning officiating. Burial will be at Memory Gardens with military rights performed by the Daniel Boone VFW Post 5578 Madison, WV.
