Description	:	Jonas Nilsson Young was born September 27, 1871 at Ryggesbo farm in Ovanåker, Gävleborg, Sweden, the son of Nils Olsson Ung and Ella Olsdotter. His father, Nils Olsson was the son of Olof Gallant and Brita Olsdotter, brother of Peter Olsson Engstrom and Ella Olsdotter Angstrom. His uncle Peter Engstrom and aunt Ella Angstrom also emigrated to the United States and settled in Stratford, Iowa. Read More	Jonas Nilsson Young was born September 27, 1871 at Ryggesbo farm in Ovanåker, Gävleborg, Sweden, the son of Nils Olsson Ung and Ella Olsdotter. His father, Nils Olsson was the son of Olof Gallant and Brita Olsdotter, brother of Peter Olsson Engstrom and Ella Olsdotter Angstrom. His uncle Peter Engstrom and aunt Ella Angstrom also emigrated to the United States and settled in Stratford, Iowa. As a young man, Jonas' father, Nils Olsson, joined the Swedish military where he adopted the surname "Ung", which is Swedish for "Young", the name that Jonas brought with him to America. Jonas was the only member of his immediate family to emigrate. At times, two of his brothers came to America for a period of a few years, however they always returned to Sweden. On March 10, 1897, Jonas married Hilda Christina Bocklund, the daughter of Andrew and Caroline (Carlson) Bocklund. The had eight children, Wallace, Edward, Dora, Floyd, Arthur, Virgil, Bernice and Oscar. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Stratford Courier August 15, 1912 Obituary Jonas Young was born in Ovanåker, Gävleborgs Län, Sweden, September 27, 1871. He emigrated to the United States in 1892, settling in Wisconsin, where he had lived about four years. Sixteen years ago he came to Hamilton county, and to the vicinity of Stratford. He was married to Miss Hilda Backlund, March 10, 1897, and since their marriage have lived on a farm six miles east of Stratford, where Mr. Young by hard work, economy and perseverance built up a comfortable home. He was always somewhat poorly in health and through overwork his health was completely broken down, being unable lately to work at all. Last spring he suffered a nervous breakdown, accompanied by mental depression and melancholy. A gloomy view of life settled over him, which defied every friendly ministration to shake off. He grew gradually more despondent and tired of life until August 4, 1912, he ended his human existence. He was at the time of his death 40 years, 11 months and 23 days old. He was honored and respected by all who knew him, a desirable neighbor and friend. He is sincerely and deeply mourned by his wife and eight children, by an aged mother, two brothers and four sisters in Sweden. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Andrew Johnson at the home Tuesday afternoon and the remains were laid to rest in the Oakwood cemetery. A large crowd of neighbors and friends attended to pay their last respects. It was a sad and heart rending service, especially to the bereaved ones. Card of Thanks.
