Jorgensen Is Laid To Rest Here Wednesday Clay County Pioneer Dies at Age of 68 at Home Sunday Evening Another Territorial pioneer of this community answered the final summons in the passing Sunday evening of Jorgen Jorgensen at his home on South Fourth street. Mr. Jorgensen had lived in this vicinity since 1870, when his father took up a homestead in Clay county. Mr. Jorgensen was born in Denmark, October 6, 1866, and was past 68 years old when he died. When he was two years of age the family came to American, settling first at Muskegon, Michigan, where they remained a year and then moved to Newton, Iowa, where they lived another year. From Newton they came to the new land of Dakota to take up a homestead, 14 miles southwest of the future townsite of Beresford. In 1886, he was united in marriage to Christine Lawrensen, a resident of the same community in Clay county and to this union six children were born. He farmed until failing health forced him to move to town in 1924. Several months ago complications developed which gradually wore him down until the end came Sunday. Funeral services were held at the home and at Nazareth Lutheran church Wednesday afternoon with interment in Rockfield cemetery. Rev. A. V. Neve had charge of the service. Surviving him are his widow, one son, Louie Jorgensen and two daughters, Mrs. Wesley Doane and Mrs. Alvin Ayres all of Beresford; a brother Fred Jorgensen of Armour, and a sister Mrs. Mads Nelson of Lodi.
