Sept. 18, 1927. Age 71 years. Mr. Hiner had been in failing health for a year or more, about a month ago he suffered a partial stroke of paralyses, from which he never fully recovered all his faculties. Read More	Highland Recorder September 23, 1927 AN AGED CITIZEN DIES Mr. Joseph A. Hiner, a well known citizen of this community died at his home just north of Monterey, Sunday evening. Sept. 18, 1927. Age 71 years. Mr. Hiner had been in failing health for a year or more, about a month ago he suffered a partial stroke of paralyses, from which he never fully recovered all his faculties. He was born July 23rd 1856 near Monterey and was the son of the late Joseph B. Hiner, and spending his life near where he was born. In 1882 he married Miss Lucy E. Rexrode, who survives him. To this union were born eleven children, five dying in infancy. Those living are Bernie, Edward, John, Wilborn, Rhoda and Howard, all of the Monterey community. The diseased was jailor for Mr. John Arbogast from 1883 to 1887, during the Acheson lynching. The greater part of his life has been spent in farming, Mr. Hiner was an industrious man and always true to his convictions Though he never united with any church he believed in them and respected the services of god. During his illness his family and visiting friends noticed the change in him and he often quoting scripture and singing In his feeble way. Rev. Mr. Wyand used one of his Bible quotations in preaching his funeral. The services were conducted at the Monterey Methodist, church Monday morning, after which he was laid to rest in the Monterey cemetery.
